Our Founder's Story
Hi, my name is Michael Olivier and I am the founder of teentrepreneurs. I started this community to empower, equip and educate the next generation of entrepreneurs to help young people take action in solving today’s problems.
The primary goal is to make entrepreneurship free & fun to learn for everyone (no matter your race, gender or social class).
I was born, raised and still today live in the Cape Flats, which for those who do not know, is a collective of poor townships in Cape Town subjected to crime, drug abuse and gang violence. If you are born in such communities, very little is expected of you.
People around you don’t really believe in or support you and this creates a negative environment where the majority of people born in the Cape flats have little faith in their talents and abilities and give up on pursuing their dreams and passions.
Instead of going after what they really want in life, they settle for average and some in desperation a life of drug abuse, crime and violence. Most people in communities like mine go on to never fully developing their talents or finding their passions because the pressures of society have prevented them from chasing their dreams. There are little opportunities and a lack of support, motivation & resources to achieve their goals and break free from social barriers.
Even though I too grew up in such a community, I was fortunate to have God fearing parents who equipped me with the characteristics to look above my circumstances and not see the world as it is, but as it could be. As a result of my parents godly parenting, I always believed in myself , chased my dreams with confidence and had faith in God to see me through. To this day I am still chasing my dreams and going after everything society said isn’t for me.

And that’s the way it should be. Our circumstances shouldn’t keep us back. It doesn’t matter where we come from; we can be whoever we desire to be. We are the writers of our own story. Our social class or bank balance shouldn’t hold us back from reaching our full potential. And pondering on these thoughts I questioned…

And then I realised I can’t…
...but I can build a community that CAN!!!

And that’s how teentrepreneurs came to be.
